With the assent of the President of India Sri Pranab Mukharjee the Uttarakhand Lokayukta Bill became an Act. This bill was cleared by the concerned Assembly in October 2011 and the objective of the Bill is to curb corruption in the State.
1. The Chief Minster, Ministers, MLAs and Govt servants, including IAS and IPS officers and also former Chief Ministers, former Ministers and retired officer excluding the Judges of the Uttarakhand High Court are covered within the ambit of this Act/Lokayukta excluding
2. The Lokayukta consists of a chairperson and five members and number of members could be increased to seven as per the requirement.
3. Persons of the legal background with integrity and outstanding ability will be its members.
4. The term of the Chairperson of the Lokayukta would be of five years or upto the age of 70 years whichever is earlier.
