The Constitution of India (Part XVII, Chapter III Article 348) provides that English is the language used in the High Court and Supreme Court of India. However, various states have made amendments and the High Court can now use local languages as specified by the notification issued by the state governments. Similarly, local languages can be used in the proceedings and judgements in subordinate courts.
